Buttery oat + almond granola - yoghurt bowls ~ baby + toddler friendly ~
Written by Christina Hills, Baby + Child Dietitian, founder of the Happy Feeding Co Clinic
Many granolas are not suitable for babies because they contain whole nuts / chunks or large seeds which are a choking hazard and some are exceptionally high in sugar
This granola uses ground almonds instead of chunky nuts, and uses melted butter with the option of a small amount of maple syrup for older babies/toddlers if you choose to do so
TO MAKE
(Makes 2 smaller adult sized bowls and one baby portion, increase quantity as needed)
Raspberry chia jam:
1 cup frozen raspberries (or fresh if you prefer, but this works really nicely with frozen as they go all soft and melty)
1 tsp chia seeds
1 tbsp honey/maple syrup (optional - leave out for babies, do not give honey to babies under 12 months)
Buttery almond oat granola:
1 tablespoon of butter
Pinch ground cinnamon
2 tsp maple syrup - leave out for babies and use an extra tsp of butter in its place
1/2 cup oats
1/4 cup ground almonds of almonds
To serve:
Full fat greek yogurt- or coconut yogurt if you or your little one is dairy free - a few dollops per person
TO MAKE
Whack your raspberries, chia seeds and honey in a small pan and cook on a low heat on the hob for about 5-10 mins or so until they become soft and gooey
Melt the butter in frying pan then add the ground cinnamon, pour in the maple syrup now if using, then add the oats and ground almonds and toss to coat in the butter. Cook for about 5 minutes, make sure the oats are golden and toasty. Press the granola down with your wooden spoon and remove from the heat but leave in the pan for now
Assemble your bowls by dolloping your yogurt in first.
Mash the granola into crumbs for babies
Spoon over the granola on top of the yoghurt and then spoon the raspberry chia jam alongside it
For babies 6-9 months: mash and mix the yog and granola and fruit together and offer on a spoon. Ensure no big lumps of fruit or granola - mash down more if so.
9/10 months+ mix it all together or just offer as it is
