A rich, smooth and creamy shake that we make on repeat in our house! I actually created this recipe when I was pregnant and wanted to eat dates everyday! But now I share it with my little girl, who loves it. And we freeze it into fun lolly moulds too!

Nut butter is the real hero in this recipe, it gives a good whack of calories and protein. Cacao powder brings flavour and a big hit of magnesium - being one of the richest dietary sources of magnesium - and also iron - an essential nutrient for littles! Check you are using an organic powder that doesn’t add anything other than cacao.

YOU NEED:

  • 1 large ripe banana

  • 3 medjool dates, stone removed

  • 2-3 heaped tablespoons smooth peanut butter / almond butter

  • 4 level tablespoons of cacao (or cocoa) powder

  • 300mls almond milk

  • 1 tablespoons ground mixed seeds and nuts (I have used yum and yay!)

  • 2 ice cubes (extra to serve)

TO MAKE:

  1. Blend all ingredients in a blender and serve!

This can be offered to babies 10/12 months* onwards

*Ideally wait until at least 12 months (or until solids are well established) to offered dried fruit like dates as they are quite sweet
